It has been five eventful years since the last election - time to take stock of promises made, promises kept. Here is the report card !

360 degree connectivity

  • International flights to/from Bangalore begin in 1999 
  • Existing HAL airport upgraded with international terminal
  • Bangalore on the International Air Map - Direct flights to Singapore, United States, Europe, Malaysia, Dubai etc.
  • Work begins on Rs.1500 crores Bangalore International Airport; MOU signed in 1999 
  • Setting up of Air cargo terminal for Perishable goods in Bangalore - first in India to be setup outside Delhi - giving boost to export of floriculture, fruits and vegetables
  • Other airports in Karnataka upgraded - Flights to Mangalore, Hubli, Belgaum commenced

Easing Traffic Congestion

  • Planning Commission clears Metro Rail Project for Bangalore to relieve traffic congestion in the city of Bangalore
  • New Railway Terminal at Yeshwantpur started; twenty-nine new trains started from Bangalore division
  • Computerised reservation counters set up in 8 additional locations of Bangalore

Infrastructure

  • Bringing Bangalore as part of Golden Quadrilateral; covering 713 KM of Karnataka
  • Laying of 5,966 KM of rural roads in Karnataka under PM Gram Sadak Yojana
  • Rs.2693 crores HUDCO assistance for improvement of roads in Bangalore
  • K R Puram Cable Stayed Bridge constructed with Central assistance 
  • Flyovers and bridges constructed to ease traffic congestion in the growing city of Bangalore 
  • Infrastructure facilities like Cauvery Stage III, Sirsi Flyover, Mekhri Circle Underpass etc given 75% additional financial assistance
  • 180 borewells provided in areas suffering drinking water shortage,
  • 4584 houses constructed for the poor in Dasarahalli, Someshwara, Gavipuram, Bharathmata, Swagat and other slums in Bangalore
  • Rs 9653 crores provided to Karnataka by HUDCO
  • Setting up Power Grid in Kolar providing  over 2000 MW of power at a cost of Rs 3865 crores
  • Facilitating raising of the height of Almatti dam to 524 Mtr. thereby bringing over 15 lakh acres of land under irrigation
  • Karnataka’s century old dream realized by setting up of southwest Railways with Hubli as the focal point. 
  • Green signal for construction of Bidar–Kalburgi, Hubli – Ankola, Mangalore – Hassan – Bangalore, Harihar – Kottur railway routes
  • MP Fund utilized (100% utilisation of allocated Rs 14 crores) for infrastructure upgradation in hospitals , construction and improvement of school buildings, community halls constructed, and so on.

Education

  • 72,000 children in 263 Government and Aided Schools of Bangalore receive hot nutritious midday meal everyday through Adamya Chetana
  • 8000 children in 30 Kannada Government Schools receive benefits of non-formal education through Aata Paatha, a mobile educational resource facility. 
  • 100 Government Schools receive drinking water facility
  • 60 schools provided with new classrooms / Computer facilities.

  • South India Regional Office of Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts [IGNCA] set up in Bangalore.
  • Modern Art Gallery
  • Upgradation of Bugle Rock - Rs 10 lakhs from MP Fund, Rs 40 lakhs from Tourism dept. and Rs 50 lakhs from HUDCO [DVG's statue and portraits of Kannada poets installed]
  • Hampi brought on world tourism map; classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO; Rs 100 crores for development of the site
  • Special central assistance for boosting tourism to Hampi, Aihole, Pattadkallu, Bijapur, Chitradurga, Srirangapatna, Shravanabelagola and Mysore
  • Development of Kempambudhi lake

Bangalore Projects taken up under Rs.1000 crores financial assistance given to BMP for development of infrastructure

    • Parks constructed with play facilities for children
    • International standard toilet facilities in 101 locations (Nirmal Bangalore)
    • Construction of multi-storeyed car park at J C Road
    • Desilting and beautification of lakes - Sankey Tank, Ulsoor, Yediyur etc
    • Concreting of roads in old areas of Bangalore- Kalasiplayam, City Market, Gandhinagar etc
    • Development of Kempegowda Museum
    • Construction of under-bridges and over-bridges in several places-Madhavnagar, Rajajinagar, etc
    • Development of several traffic junctions - Minerva, Majestic Circle etc
    • Improvement of 21 footpaths in R V Road, Sheshadripuram, Malleswaram etc
    • Solid Waste Management Facility
    • Old areas and extensions of Uttarahalli get water supply and under-ground drainage facility
    • By-lanes in Malleswaram, Sheshadripuram upgraded
    • Slum areas receive funding for construction of houses - Ambedkar Nagar, Lakshman Rao Nagar etc.
